On 21 September 2022 the Radio and Television Commission of Lithuania (hereinafter – the RTCL) and the Consell de l'Audiovisual de Catalunya (hereinafter – the CAC) signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of regulation of audiovisual media services. The Catalan delegation was headed by Mr. Xevi Xirgo Teixidor the president of the CAC.
The CAC, like the RTCL, is an independent body that regulates the audiovisual media in Catalonia. The CAC's main operating principles are to defend freedom of speech and information, pluralism of knowledge, impartiality and fairness, as well as free competition in this sector.
The planned cooperation between the RTCL and the CAC is aimed at developing and strengthening the understanding of the respective media landscapes and the tasks of the two regulators, to explore areas of common interest and to develop an according working relationship as well as to exchange common experience and advice.
In the near future, the RTCL and the CAC will seek to pay special attention to the protection of minors and other vulnerable groups of society, promote media literacy and combat disinformation, improve the regulation of audiovisual media services and video sharing platform services.
The further course of cooperation was discussed during the meeting. It was decided to organize meetings at least once a year, to exchange specialists from both sides and to consult each other on issues of regulation of audiovisual media services.
